Privacy

The app measures acceleration and, if you choose to, publishes the result. Nothing goes anywhere until you tap Publish, and this page lists everything that does, in full, below.

The app stays quiet until you publish

Measuring is entirely local, and the app does not make a single network request while it is doing it. The moment it does talk to this site is when you publish a run, and after that it is only ever about that one run: sending it, checking whether it went through, checking where it stands against other runs of the same model, and withdrawing it if you change your mind.

There is no analytics in the app, no crash reporting and no advertising, so there is nothing quietly phoning home in the background either.

What the app sends when you publish

Motorcycle
The manufacturer and model, plus the year, engine capacity and whether the bike is modified, whichever of those you filled in.
Rider weight
The figure you typed in, in kilograms. It gets published right beside the measurement, because twenty kilos is worth a tenth or two on a small bike — a comparison without it would not mean much.
Split times
How many seconds each speed range took, such as 0 to 100.
The curve
Time, speed, longitudinal g-force and altitude, sampled through the whole run. Altitude goes out as a change from the start of the run, never as an absolute height — that is enough to tell whether the road was flat, without giving away where the road was.
Comment
Only if you wrote one, and only up to 500 characters.
Install ID
128 random bits, made up on your first publish and built from nothing about you or your phone. It ties your submissions to the secret that lets you pull them back later, and it keeps one install from flooding the site with submissions.

Every one of those fields ends up published on this site, except the install ID — that one is never shown to anybody.

What the app never sends

  • GPS coordinates. The phone uses your position to work out speed, then throws it away. Nothing latitude- or longitude-shaped ever leaves the phone, and none of it is even kept there.
  • Your route, or any part of it.
  • Absolute altitude.
  • Lean angle and lateral g-force. The phone measures both and shows them to you on screen, but neither is sent — a public cornering figure would turn a measuring tool into a scoreboard.
  • Your name, e-mail address, phone number or any account. There is no sign-up, and a published run sits under the motorcycle with no rider name attached.
  • Contacts, photos, other apps, advertising identifiers, or anything else the phone happens to know about you.

What never leaves your phone

Your measurements, your garage and your threshold settings all live in a database on the phone itself, and nothing about them is copied anywhere else. A run you never publish is seen by nobody but you. Uninstall the app and all of it is gone — there is no copy on my side to bring it back from.

Why the app asks for what it asks for

Location is the only way the app can measure speed, so it needs the permission to work at all. It has to keep working with the screen off, because a measurement happens while you are riding with the phone sitting in a mount, which is why the app runs a foreground service for as long as the session lasts. Your position is used to work out speed and then dropped.

Notifications exist so that service does not run invisibly: the notification tells you a measurement is under way, and with the screen off it is the only sign it is happening. Say no to the permission and the measurement still runs fine.

Bluetooth is only for the optional HUD mode, which pushes your live results to a motorcycle dashboard that supports it. It talks to your motorcycle and nothing else.

Where a published measurement lives

On Cloudflare infrastructure, in a database holding exactly the fields listed above. Your IP address is not one of them: Cloudflare uses it in passing, while it handles the request, to limit how many submissions can come from one place, and it never gets written into the database. Cloudflare keeps its own server logs of requests to the site, the way any web host does.

This site itself sets no cookies for visitors and runs no analytics. The one cookie anywhere in the code belongs to the administration login and a reader never sees it.

Taking a measurement back

Open the run in the app and ask for it to be removed. The request carries a secret that was issued when you published, which is why only the phone that published a measurement can withdraw it. The six-character code printed on the share image is deliberately not enough on its own — those images end up circulating in group chats, and someone who saw one should not be able to pull down a run that was not theirs.

I confirm the request by hand, and the curve and split times are then deleted outright, not just hidden. If you lose the phone or uninstall the app, that secret goes with it and the app can no longer withdraw the run for you — write to me instead and I will take it down.

How long it stays up

A published measurement stays up until you withdraw it. Nothing expires on its own: the whole point of the site is a growing set of comparable measurements, and quietly clearing them out after a year would just empty it back out.

Your rights

Publishing is entirely your call, made one run at a time, and you can undo it the way described above. Because nothing published identifies you, telling me who you are will not help me find your data — what does is the six-character code of a run, or the address of its page. Write to me and I will answer.

Children

The app is built for riders and is not aimed at children. Nothing in it is designed with them in mind.

If this page changes

If what the app sends ever changes, this page changes right along with it and the date at the top moves too. It is not the kind of document that gets quietly broadened behind your back.

Who is behind this

SpeedCharts is an independent, non-commercial project. There is no company behind it, no ads and nothing to sell.
